April is proving to be just as busy as the start of the year, which means I'm looking at 3-4 poems a day moving forward if I want to hit 30.
So to jump start myself, I'm using Paint Chip Poetry prompts. I have plenty of work today, so I'll probably write more tonight, but here's 2 to get me going.
As always, you're getting first drafts.
I'm pulling one content prompt and three color chip words for each poem:
NaPoWriMo Poem 3:
Content: Big News
Cards: Rattlesnake, Yellow Jacket, and Antique Brass
"The Teacher Pest"
Ms. Sneevy bumbled about the classroom
like an innocent honey bee
whenever a room parent volunteered
She ho'd and hummed, hummed, hummed
But we knew better
knew that the smack of her hand on your desk
when she smiled down with teeth like antique brass
was the dangerous tail vibration of a rattle snake
If you didn't make eye contact
she'd strike
ask questions you couldn't possibly know
pull at the strands of your terrible haircut
like she did to poor Bobby Lee
And if you made eye contact
she'd call you to the front of the room
to better put your ignorance on display
so everyone could see those few extra pounds
Tiffany collected over spring break
So when she announced she had big news
we slunched in our seats
but nothing could have prepared us
"I'll be following you," she said
her smile dark, face severer than a yellow jakcet's
"I'll be teaching 6th grade too."
NaPoWriMo Poem 4:
Content: What the World Needs
Cards: Red Flag, Maraschino, old barn
"A Simple Picnic"
We lay naked in the dewed grass
having rolled from the rumpled blanket
the wine glasses spilled
the baguette and ham lost beneath your trousers
my blouse soaking up maraschino cherries
In the distance the red flag of a child's fort
twisted in the breeze and the old barn
broke the horizon, obscuring the sunrise beyond
and as you laced your fingers through my hair
I knew that this simple picnic turned lovers' trist
was something my world needed much more of
ETA: If you happen to use these same prompts, I'd LOVE to see what you come up with!
