NaPoWriMo 5-6: Two Crazy Couples

Here we go again with some more Paint Chip Poetry, this time I did 4 color cards and 1 content card, and because time is sweet and short and limited, I set myself a timer of 5 minutes.

NaPoWriMo: Poem 5

Content: On the Road

Cards: Mustard Seed, Key Lime, Niagara Falls, The Road Less Traveled.

"The Road Less Traveled"

Niagara Falls on a whim
"Let's go!" Dolly shouted
and because I always give in
to her crazy
we were in the car

Six hours
how long would we stay?
would we get a hotel
her feet hung out the window
"Take that way"

"I'm not getting off the highway"
"You're no fun."
"We're going to the Falls aren't we?"
"Please. Channel Robert Frost."

Three hours later
GPS spinning
we pulled into a diner
the counters were
the color of mustard seeds
the seats as red as cherries

"Give me a Farmer's Breakfast"
I told the only waiter
His tiny eyes shifted to Dolly
"How's the Key Lime pie?"
"Best in the state."

Her fork scooped in
the neon green jiggled
she smiled as she slid
the fork out
the whipped cream clinging
to her upper lip
"This," she said, "Is what we came for."

"What about the Falls?"
She licked her lips.
"Forget 'em."

Shoo! I technically wrote the last stanza past the 5 minute mark, but my husband also came in and  distracted me for a moment. lol I like where this ended up, and could see shifting it into a flash fiction in the future. The one card is referenced in the poem, but only word for word in the title, which feels a bit like cheating, but is also in the rules of Paint Chip Poetry, and I like it much better this way.

Okay, one more, then back to grading for me.

NaPoWriMo: Poem 6

Content: True Love

Cards: Silver Spoon, Hot Cocoa, Jack and the Beanstalk, Hot Pink

5 minutes

"Happy"

Her hot pink lipstick
clung to the silver spoon
melting into her hot cocoa
as she dipped and stirred again

the spoon twisted
coming out clean
and she bit it between her teeth

she caught me watching her
laughed
asked me what I thought I was looking at
if I'd like some cocoa

I have everything I need
everything I want
Like Jack and the Beanstalk
I'd been gifted something magical
only I knew better than to throw it away

Finished with a minute and 5 seconds to spare! I was worried I'd go lust instead of love, but think I saved it there in the end. Would like to play with this one a bit more, maybe add a new stanza right before the last. Something that tells us more about them specifically, but I'd have to think on it more than a minute, so here we are. I ended up with couples in both. I could have gone sad to avoid that I suppose din the 2nd poem, but didn't ultimately feel like it.

If you happen to use these prompts too, I'd love to see what you came up with!
