Despite just posting, I'm a poem in debt already, so I'm going to knock two out before I finally retire for bed.
I've explained in detail where my mind is at this point in the challenge in my last post, so I'll just jump right to tackling National Poetry Month Challenge.
No restraints except I did try to keep poem 3 as 2 line stanzas twice followed by a 3. Poem three explores life and takes the half-empty, half-full cup to the next level. Poem 4 attacks us for when we try to avoid bad news or block out other people's struggles because they don't reflect our own. The idea here isn't to wallow in pain, but to acknowledge it because without acknowledgement, nothing can be made better.
Both came out a little dark. But don't worry; I usually can't make it through April without at least one cherry blossom poem. ;)
NPMC Poem 3:
"A Matter of Timing"
a blade both gleams
and maims
the snow
blankets and buries
the late night inspiration
rewards the soul
deprives the body
a helping hand
sacrifices
the further you go
the less there is to see
Every prayer of thanks
is recognition
of the masses going without
The state of things
is not the question
The question is
which moment do we drink
from the cup
that is always filling
and always emptying?
NPMC Poem 4:
"Listen When it Hurts"
Listen when it is hardest
when the words twist inside
and bring only pain
Listen with your mind
heart soul reason
finger tips
and your eyes
seeking invisible stories
that you don't want to know
Listen for the answer
that proves you're privileged
know nothing
and can never understand
Listen because it hurts them
more to share it
and because that hurt
doesn't stop just because
you stopped listening
