Toughen Up: Poem 13 NPMC15

The thirteenth poem in this belated bunch is because I feel like my last few poems were so light and airy and dreamy in a sense. And really, that is one of the stereotypes of poetry: that it is beautiful and full of dreams and love, or pain, but even the pain is beautiful. There are the silly poems of course, I think this one takes a turn in that direction, but it tries to be not what we want it to be, or at least, not what most would expect a poem to be. And yet, in a lot of ways it still is.

True to the challenge, it isn't edited much, but I like its efforts just the same.

NPMC15 Poem 13:

"Toughen Up"

Poems can be dirty
ragged and
rough

Stick you
shock you
slice off your tounge

Fuck up
the lyrics
and feel like
blackmail

Leave you bruised
and busted and
bleeding inside

Then dump your heart
in a ditch
and jam nails
in your spine

dirty and ragged
busted and rough
not all poems are pretty

some poems are tough
