Another random poem, though this time I didn't get out of bed at 3am to write it.
"The Weight of You"
There are times
when the weight of you
hangs heavy on my hips
when you go from walking
to not walking
pulling me down by linked hands
when for reasons yet unexplained
you climb on my head
or restlessly crawl onto my chest
in the middle of the night
But there are also times
when I think of how you entered
7 pounds 6 ounces
and how small you were
how small you are
in a world of heavy things
and then your 23 pounds
disobeys gravity
when you snuggle
in the crook of my arm
when I carry you to the doctor's
after a traumatic event
then, even asleep
there is no burden of you
