NPM22-24: Time, Easter, Bad Relationships- What a mix.

Even on Easter the challenge continues.

Today was lovely and I colored some hard boiled brown eggs with crayons (the store was out of white). I should have wrote a poem about it, but didn't. We made pudding and ate it warm from the bowl with a dollop of cool whip. Then later went to brunch. The weather was warm and pleasant and there was sun. I wore a dress.
I don't know why any of these sensual things didn't make into my poems today, but maybe tomorrow.

Here are three that catch me up. The last is fictional and real in that it is not anything I am experiences, but for some reason people in abusive relationships made it into my mind. Perhaps it was the woman at the restaurant last night. She looked so sad.

22. "How Time Passes"

The first part of the year
always slides by like butter
It's here then over before we know it
and though we claim summers are too short
they seem to linger longer
the summer days burning in our minds
slowing time
and Fall drags out the last sleepy stretch
before the year races through to Winter
the Holidays mark the end
and though we knew it was coming
there is always the sense of surprise
how'd we get here
when did we begin

23. "Easter"

Fluffy Chicks
and plastic grass
chocolate rabbits
and boiled eggs
painted, colored, pasteled
brunches and churches
Sunday best
and then, sometimes
even God

24. ""It's Only Cause I Love You"

Kisses crack like window panes
and shatter to the ground
A hand to hold is a hand to clench, a hand to break
Now bruises born of hugging
They miss where love ends and hate begins
They turn wrong at the fork
They can't see the lies
that blurred the windshield
of their lives
the wipers long disabled
A backseat driver calls the shots
and they forget how near their foot hovers
over the brakes
