Just so you know, National Poetry Month did not go unnoticed yesterday in our home.
My husband and I had fun writing little poems on the fridge with those little magnetic words. Unfortunately, though amusingly for us, we only own the "naughty" edition of magnetic poetry and therefore I will not be sharing any of them on here. :) As lovely as they may have been.
Today I will be sharing first a poem on sensations and then a haiku.
My students are getting extra credit tonight (good extra credit too!) if they participate in an open mic being held by the school. So I guess I've been thinking of nervousness a lot and this turned into the following poem.
"A Moment of Feeling"
There are certain sensations
which remain just out of reach
nearly unretrievable
until something happens that pushes you under them
that nervous shaking that starts
in the pit of your stomach
and escapes to all your limbs, your heart beating faster than your body
run, run, run
pulsing through your veins
as you step, perhaps, in front of a large crowd
or that flutter
the impossible feeling of all your white cells
bursting into butterflies
that joy that reaches in and pulls the corners of your mouth
some part nervous, some part ecstatic
incited by a first kiss or a gentle caress from a knowing crush
both precisely in discernible
The next one is a haiku. I thought it would be fun to write one and I tried to do so in the traditional Japanese sense, but I don't really have a cutting word. It is about Spring though.
"True Season of Joy"
Joy delivered by
Sun -- Spring a gift of breezes
Happiness flowers.
