People often claim their house or apartment is a mess, and I have generally come to accept that most of the time people don't keep it as clean as when they expect people over.
However, that is the whole point- not letting anyone see it that way, or at least not at its worst.
Of course, moving in September was a bad idea. Moving in September, then Chris going out of town for 3 weeks, AND teaching 5 composition classes was a horrendous idea. Personal lives awhack things were not in order in our house. We literally tried to unpack and clean before going out of town and had everything, but the bed room presentable.(We were also up until 2:30am) Of course a few homemade meals and lots of paperwork later the kitchen and dining room is embarrassing, and having half unpacked suitcases in the living room and office doesn't help, in addition to the bedroom still being a complete disaster and having a huge pile of dirty laundry in the hallway because I was actually doing laundry was just upsetting.
I knew a maintenance inspection was coming, but normally it is a maintenance guy who looks for 5 specific things and goes out and while it was embarrassing to let that person see my apartment in tathers, I wasn't expecting two of our office managers to be making the rounds, including the lady that rented us the apartment. :(
What can I say- you should have seen it two weeks ago? Getting informed that this is a prime place for mice is not the conversation I would have liked to have had with this woman. She's really nice and despite my explanations, she probably now thinks I live in a pig hole.
I actually asked them to come back so that I could prove we don't live like this in on a normal basis. I'd start cleaning it immediately and have them come Friday or next week, but my damn back needs to be rested. (I pulled my muscle last night putting on a sock and general bending, sitting, and driving hurts a lot.) At least I had taken the recycling and at least the bathroom didn't look ewy and at least my office, while still impeded by boxes was not actually disgusting or "messy."
So really it was just the one embarrassing suitcase, a bunch of unpacked things placed in poor spots, a disgusting pile of dishes and an atrocious bedroom. So maybe she believed me? Cause it really is true. The state of this is driving me crazy, but as I spend about 8 hours in my office, I generally don't have to deal with it.
I had planned to do it Monday but getting 5 hours of additional sleep screwed that. I couldn't do it yesterday since I was behind from Monday, and today, I need to get more work done and was going to try and relax if I could.
Maybe I should just skip my meeting tomorrow and try to get some of it done.
I actually asked them to come back and check on us. Did I say that? Yes I did. They're maybe going to come back in a month. But I really want them to. I think I should call and ask them to so they don't forget. I can't bear the thought of them thinking I live like THIS.
Even if for the past 3 months I basically have.
