Oil Issues

We are using the same technology as 30 years ago to try and take care of the major oil spill in the Gulf. When the disaster strikes, that's when they decide to brainstorm and "expand their technology."

The same people that want the government to stay out of everything is mad that they weren't all over this. Apparently they have been planning as well though.

Their best idea has only been tested at a few hundred feet, not the thousands that are the reality.

The pelicans, just removed off the endangered species list last year, are covered in oil. The ones they save will never make it to their nests again, as that island is covered in oil as well.

The biggest question everyone wants to know is why isn't enough being done? Why isn't someone else stepping up to do something? Why have engineers not volunteered their ideas? Why aren't we all just rushing to the shore for boats and buckets, a magic vacuum that will suck it all up and spit out only the ocean?

Why are we able to forget about it and go about our day until they bring it up on the news again? Why didn't we prepare ahead? Why, after the last time, did we not think to say– just in cast this happens again...

The President's stance is that we need to get away from drilling, but are not yet able to do so. It is a necessity, for our energy independence, as we are still a few breakthroughs away from other means. Ok. Logical. Drilling somewhere else the same thing could have happened. Their shores, their animals, their problem.
The President said the mistake he made was trusting that the oil companies knew how to handle disasters.

What about anyone? At this point, I think we'd be fine with anyone with an answer. Anyone?
