I think I have a crush on super heroes.
Certainly not all super heros. No one in the Fantastic Four really does anything for me. Superman no. But there must be something going on.
Something must explain my new mini-obsession with Robert Downey Junior. Mustn't it? He is other wise too old for me, I think, and certain bits of his facial expressions can be quite off putting.
The whole deal started with Ironman. A need to pay attention to him, fueled by the good story line. Those eyes...
But then I saw Sherlock Holmes. He was cute as Ironman, but as Sherlock Holmes I find myself kind of wanting to lick him. Disturbing? Yes, I think so! He's awful grungy in that movie.
In my quest to explain myself I watched a little mini slide show of RDJr on imdb. Why had I not noticed him before? I've certainly seen his movies. The man does have gorgeous eyes, but what is it really? The pictures confirmed no inordinate attraction. In fact, I really wasn't that interested. So what was it?
I have come to the conclusion that it is his characters I'm attracted to. The way he holds himself as them. Their intelligence and strive for good. How they're a little bit nerdy in a cool sort of way. The way those gorgeous eyes light up when they're on to something.
It makes sense when I think about it. After all, Tobey McGuire barely stirs my interest until he is Spiderman. Zorro could be anyone as long he's suave, with an accent and a mask. The "suit" or "hero-ness" does something. However, the Downey characters really lack suits (or indeed have too much suit) and they're not typical daring dos. So it's not a traditional type of appeal. So it must not really be the "super hero" appeal.
What Sherlock and Stark do have, though, is an incredible intelligence and lack of care for social standard that allows them to do what they want. It's kind of like that bad boy attitude gone super hero good.
And that my friends is sexy.
