Who Put that on My Plate?

It seems people love to sit around and beleive that nothing will ever change- that things are the way they are the way they are the way they are. But they don't have to be.

So much of life is arbitrary. So much of life can be changed. Sometimes whether we mean it to or not.

I look at all the "Food Revolutions" slowly easing around us, and I think- well that is a change. Of course, food has changed so much probably just in my life span. The invention of the microwave, which was prior to me, had a lot to do with that. But even in my family, when I was a little kid Mom made dinner at home and there'd be the occasional pizza night. I remember looking forward to road trips because I got to eat fast food. It was like a treat.

Then some time in my teenage years, even we started eating out more. Dinners became quicker than even Shake n' Bake. Why Shake n Bake when you can just bake? I'm sure a lot of it had to do with schedules and my mom's disapproval of my dad's famous fried baloney dinner... but I have a sneaking suspicion that it was much bigger than that. I don't think it was just my family. It can't have been.

I found out yesterday that the food shown on reprints of "The Last Supper" have been increased by 60% since the original, so that it will look like a feast/meal to modern eyes.

I just saw a preview for a show, and this guy- James Oliver- goes to a kindergarten (That's age 6 right?) class and asks them to identify fresh fruits and veggies. They didn' t know what a single one was!

We have evolved into our current state, but the kids today are submersed in it. They will know nothing else. I think that guy is right- that's where the change needs to start, so its not change so much as this is how you do it.

In France they have 5 course lunches, sitting at a table, with menus and napkins and real plates- when funds get cut it is never from the kids meals.

Here's the link to the vid. I saw. Looks like it is going to be a series. Food Revolution

At any rate, this isn't the first type of this thing I've seen, but I think the fact that there is now a reality show about it says something about change on the horizon. Actual change.
