dodo do dododo do the Shuffle

So I find out if I got into a PhD school by the end of March. My building needs to know if we are renewing our lease by the end of February. The lease ends at the end of April. My program isn't over until mid May.

Had we not moved down the hall 2 years ago (renewing our lease in April instead of July), this wouldn't have been an issue. But now is not the time to look to the past.

If we don't renew and go month to month, our rent goes up $300 and we have to stay for at least 2 months.

We're trying to see if we can transfer to a smaller apartment. Put some things in storage. Get a unit if we have to. ($300 transfer fee)

Chirs doesn't see why since we've been loyal, good residents for almost three years without any late payments, why they just can't cut us a deal. He's bothered that his loyalty means nothing.

I pointed out that our agent was looking into ending our contract early without charging us that outrageous fee and that our manager offered to give us the difference back in a gift card if we ended up not moving or staying with the same company.

They're little things and to me they matter. I guess Chris is more old fashioned. Then again, maybe I should be mad.

We both realize it isn't the individuals in the leasing office. They're doing the best they can. However, it all goes back to this big company idea. It's a new policy so they've really got to stick to it. It's all computerized, no way around the $300 increase if we stay in this apartment.

I guess what this is really about in the end, is that Chris is right. If our manager was THE manager, he would most likely cut us a deal. But when a company is this large, no one knows THE manager and we have to follow the rules just like everyone else. No matter how long you lived here.

There's fair and there's fair. In situations like this which one matters more? Cause I don't know.
