What is it about those songs that get stuck in our heads. Those songs that just pound into our brains until we seek them out and find them. Sometimes hearing it is a release. Other times it is a trap. Free access to the song simply makes us want to ram it into our head more.
At least this happens with me. I don't know what it is. It could be any song.
Once it was Dream of Me and I ended up writing a whole story with that song on continuous loop. I listened to it for like a week. That was years ago, but still hit skip when it comes up on my shuffle.
It's like I use the song up. Use it for every possible meaning beat or rythm it could offer and throw it out with the garbage.
It hasn't happened in a long time, until today. "Break My Stride" the 80's one hit wonder that I can't tell you the last time I heard, was running through my head yesterday. It was still there this morning, so I goggled the lyrics, discovered the title. I saw them play on youtube. The signature hair, the leather pants, the cotton vest... the seemingly uninterested keyboard playing, the announcer who interupted reminding us the song was number 10 on the top ten list.
It should have steered me away or satisfied me.
But I heard him say "I sailed away to China in a literal boat to find ya" I was stuck.
Instead I bought it off itunes. 99 cents to drive myself pleasantly insane, all day long. It's on loop as we speak.
